{this weeks library favorites . jul 26}

This week we picked out about 5 more books and total we have 12 checked out. We sort of had to rush out because Harper spiked a fever during storytime. Went home to see how high because she wasn't acting herself and looked a bit pale. 103 :( my poor baby. I grabbed a couple that they had on display. I am really drawn to cute illustrations more than anything!

We made a little library picnic outside with Milk and my sprite/lemonade/strawberry yumminess & went to town on these here books! They are all very cute!

Sea-Rex & Camp-Rex are both by Molly Idle who also wrote Flora & the Flamingo. They are cute little easy reading books!

Stella Brings the Family is a sweet story of acceptance of all families. They do come in all shapes and sizes ;)

Mo's Mustache is a carefree easy and silly read about on fleek mustaches!

Go READ to your babies!

{library favorites}

I'm thinking of starting a little series here. Our library favorites. When we started going to the library I was always looking for books that others thought were good or fun or just with cute illustrations. We have had a couple of duds and we have had some great books! So I thought I would share some of our favorites in the past months, then maybe a weekly series, because we normally hit the library up for storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 & then check out a million books :)

Paul Meets Bernadette

The Swing

Bunny-Roo, I Love You

Our local library is so amazing. Some people are shocked to hear that we even have a cafe in there. When it was really nice out in the spring/early summer, we would grab our books, grab a strawberry-banana smoothie from the cafe and go outside to read our books. Normally now it's too hot to do that, even in the shade.

We do still go to get the smoothie and read our books. Our library does a summer reading program. For every 24 books you read/are read, you get to pick out a free one. Landon has 2 already, Harper is working on her 1st. She would much rather eat the books than read them.....I am so happy we have a babe that loves to read and hope we can convert Harper. Her pediatrician says "Keep reading to her! My daughter was that way & now she LOVES reading". There is hope!

{favorites}

Lately, I have been craving anything and everything that has to do with fall. It's really right around the corner & is definetly a season I look forward to all year long.

It is currently a muggy 95 degrees here in KC, which feels more like 105, but since we have been staying inside, that doesn't even matter!

Now that Landon's birthday and party are complete, I'm so ready for all things fall as I know most people are! I love a baby in a bonnet in the fall and these Stella & Wilbur ones are SUCH a great price that I couldn't pass them up. I bought the cutest reversible one for Miss Harper. She has only worn it on the floral side so far, but there is a chambray pattern on the other side as well.

I can't wait to order more for fall and maybe a fleece lined one for winter. The problem is there are so many cute patterns, I can't pick just 2! I'm thinking a polka dot one and houndstooth one in black and white. She is so precious in them, not to mention those chubby legs!

I also am also in the market for a gold bar necklace. I haven't yet decided whether to get the babes birthdays in Roman numerals or just their names, but I will definetely be ordering soon. I love having a necklace on daily, a simple one that goes with everything. Here are some I'm considering. Do you have a favorite or a go-to online shop for ordering? Any necklaces you love similar to this? This particular one is from JewelryBlues on Etsy.

Landon chose this book from the library last time we were there & I don't know about him, but I loved it! It's called I Dare You Not To Yawn.

It's the perfect book to read before bed, because it does exactly what it says it will. Makes him, and I, yawn. He is a sleep fighter and this one made us both doze off I to dreamland.

I have been so into braids lately. I get bored with my hair pretty easily & I have had it at the same length for so long that I like to change it up, but am not brave enough to cut the length or change the color. So, braids are the answer for me. They are quick and easy and keep the hair out of my face with just a little more style than a pony tail would.

With fall right around the corner, the swimsuits are all going on sale. I snatched Harper up some swimsuits from BabyGap, and missed the cut on Zara for Landon. I will have to wait until next year to buy his. The one's we got for him this year should fit next summer too though, so he won't be deprived although I do want to buy a few new ones when they come out with them.  I am not crazy over the boys BabyGap suits but I love the fit of the Zara suits for little boys! These are the 2 I got for Harper Kate for next summer!

You should check out the suit selections and shop for next year while they are all on sale!

{10 months of harper kate}

Our little lady has officially been around for 10 months! How did this happen? She is such a joy! She is pulling up on everything cruising along it. Smacking her brother in the face and getting in trouble for it ;) She dances anytime she hears music and claps when everyone else claps. When she looks at me she smiles with her little 2 teeth smile and her nose crinkles up. I'm telling you it is the cutest thing. She loves her sleep and normally wakes up at about 8 or so. Talks to herself and then goes right into her morning nap until about 11 or 11:30. She is definitely one that needs her beauty sleep!

We love you sweet Harper girl!

{breakfast date}

My favorite son and I had a very impromptu breakfast date this morning after daddy left for work.

It was 30 minutes of fun that was totally unexpected.

I pulled out all my fun napkins and straws.

Put the whipped cream and powdered sugar in their own special containers.

Put the blueberry pancakes on their own cake stand and we chatted amongst our pretty food. We laughed together and enjoyed our one-on-one time before little sister wakes up...it's now 11:35 and she's still a-snoozin'{!}. She's our sleeper!

I had to snap a couple of pics before we ate because I love moments like this and feel like I need to capture them to show him when he's older!

Everyone should have a date with their son!

{afraid of the dark}

I'll admit with wall as smooth as butter, I am struggling with even hanging things in our new home.  We have been here for almost 10 months now and I still have NOTHING hanging on the walls downstairs.  By nothing, I literally mean, a mirror. That is all. Please believe me.

I have been seeing pictures of black walls before, but never thought I was daring enough to go that, what's the word? Dramatic. I'd say so.  This wall in our kitchen is begging to be painted.

Ask and ye shall receive, sweet repose gray colored wall.  I am still not 100% sure this is the right thing to do.  The worst that could happen is that we hate it and then, we paint the wall back to the color it was.

Here are the contenders for the job: Benjamin Moore Onyx, Nightfall, Wrought Iron.  In testing some of the colors out on the BM website, Nightfall was my favorite.

I have a vision and I think my husband has his doubts. I already have the print I want on the wall taped up with blue painters tape to see if I can get used to it or not. The answer is a resounding YES!

 I created this print myself. I think I can provide a printable if anyone is interested in printing it out! I printed it in a size 16 x 20 and pixelated it correctly so the print was crisp. I had it printed at Office Max and it's just on a flimsy white paper, because I figure I have it on my computer  if I need to print it again. I think it was like $1.40 or something.

Next order of business? Bulldog clips. I mean are these almost extinct or something? I looked at Office Max, Michaels, Target. No one carries these. I finally ended up ordering online. Should be here any day and in it's first minutes of life here at our house, it will be undergoing a dramatic transformation from silver to gold. Gold on a black wall? What could be better?

Of course the fiddle leaf will stay and I'm on the wait list for a Stendig calander for 2016! I'm thinking this wall may be the perfect home for it! This photo is from Crate & Barrel but I pre-ordered from the Stendig calendar website.

I can't wait to show you all the finished product!

{Why I Despise Traveling with My 2 Year Old and Newborn}

This is not my typical post. Let me preface this by saying, I love my kids dearly, we are so blessed by them, that goes without saying. What I'm about to say is only so I can remember all the "fun" we had! And it's only with love that I'm totally calling them out on their antics...When you're going through H E double hockey sticks, keep on going......that is the saying right?

Let's fly to Florida with a 2 and a 1/2 year old and a 4 month old, we thought. It will be fun, we thought.

Wrong - we thought wrong.

Now, the trip itself was a blast. You can see some of my favorite pics here. It was the getting there that was a hot. freaking. mess...

We got to the airport in perfect time. Good start, I thought maybe this was a sign that the day would go well. I again thought wrong.

You know the kids that you see and you're like, "Oh I hope they're not on my flight, and I definitely hope they are not sitting anywhere near me". That was easily us, I mean not us thinking that, us being those people...Before I had kids I would say/think that all the time, not anymore. I am "they".

First flight, my mom and I were saying "We are seasoned travelers, we have it down". I don't think we've ever been so wrong. Like, ever. Doesn't he look so sweet? Keep reading about this little monster...

First things first, Landon got his little squeeze pouch of applesauce, on the ascent so that his ears would pop. He squeezed it one giant squeeze. Everywhere. It. Was. Everywhere. Not one drop landed anywhere but the front of his cute BabyGap sweatshirt (pictured above). Far from cute now and covered in a very attractive yellow-brown hue.

About 45 minutes into the flight all H E L L broke loose. Let me elaborate:

Harper started having an absolute meltdown. Let me remind you, she is a fairly calm baby. Very rarely cries if I'm holding her. This was a meltdown. If there was a meltdown of the worst kind. This was it. Hands down. This was the kind where nothing would please her. She wasn't hungry, she was tired, but couldn't go to sleep.  Hot mess #1.

Landon was fine, then when she started melting down, he absolutely LOST. HIS. MARBLES. Straight out of a horrer film, I swear. I thought at any minute his head would start spinning around.

We politely asked him to strap in. A nonchalant "Nope" was his reply. Now if we were at home, he would be in timeout, but we were on a plane probably over Little Rock, Arkansas. I grabbed his arm and firmly told him to sit down and strap in. To which he, with Hulk-like strength, grabbed my face and said "Nooo, I can't, I really too strong". Oh, ok, strong people don't need to strap in, so I guess your good then. That seems reasonable.... Then, randomly, at the top of his lungs, "CHANGE MY DIAPER!!!"

Mortified. One is screaming, and the other just sh*t his pants. Perfect.

The descent into Dallas was occurring, as my 2 year old was sitting on a changing table in a 2 foot x 2 foot bathroom, telling me I was being bad & that he was going to put me in time out. Oh ok.....Please, I'm begging to have a time out! Where do I sign up? Seriously...

Get back to the seats, all is calm, all is bright for a total of about 35 seconds. Harper, spits up all over my freshly washed and perfectly wavy hair. You see, I always get ready when I travel for some reason. I do my hair, my makeup and look especially presentable. It's a strange thing, but that's just the way I am...maybe I am trying to convince myself that if I LOOK like I have my stuff together, in everyone's mind they are convinced I do.  They would be totally wrong....My mom, the eternal optimist, "you can't even tell there's baby vomit in your hair..."

Don't even try to feed me that. I have white chunks floating in my blond locks. Hope you feel better Harper Kate. I do what every mother does, run my fingers through my hair in order to get the major chunks out and let it dry looking like skinny little sticks. That is what every mother does, right?

Avoiding eye contact at all costs with every single person, flight attendants and pilots included, we deplane in Dallas. Oh, fresh faces! No one here knows what went on on the flight! I'm wearing Harper in the Baby Bjorn, my mom's grabbing the bags. Landon decides this is his chance to get kidnapped and makes a run for it. In the Dallas airport. Laughing all the way. I mean he really thought it was hysterical.

Leash.

This kid is on a leash next time we travel and now I know why people do that. I digress.

I was that person on the verge of screaming "STOP THAT KID!", when I thought up something I knew would make him stop.

Racecars.

I yelled "Landon! I have racecars!!" About 50 people turned to look at me.

Stops in his tracks. "Mommy, have racecars?", I inched closer and quickly grabbed his shirt by the collar so he couldn't make a run for it again.

"Nope, but you're in BIG trouble!!"

::Insert discipline here::

Fast forward. I have a perfect sleeping 4 month old for the layover and Landon is just watching the planes take off and snacking. And I think to myself what a wonderful world...or that maybe the next flight will be better? Maybe?

"Folks, Captain here, the machine that loads the baggage into the plane has broken {what?} and so it'll be another 10 minutes or so until we are ready for take off"

He's obviously never flown with a 4 month old and a 2 and 1/2 year old. That 10 minutes might as well have been 2 hours in my world.

Let's get to it. Buttons and air vents first. Are you kidding me? Those buttons are just begging to be played with. Bright orange and totally looking like some fun game to Landon. And let me tell you, was determined to win....He hit every single one multiple times. If anything is the most germy on an plane, my guess would be these buttons....he loved it though so we weren't about to tell him to stop. He's vaccinated and, well, to be honest, it was passing the time entirely too well to tell him to stop! No matter that we called the flight attendant so many times that she just quit coming....

A little background on my son, when he gets excited he screams. And, naturally this was no exception. I apologize to the lady in front of us and she says, "Oh I've been there, he doesn't bother me a bit!" What? He's driving me insane and I'm his mother... I wanted to kiss her. We aren't hated by everyone, just almost everyone!

Fast forward to the end of this relatively short and well mannered flight, and Landon says "I need my Diapa {yes, diapa} changed, mommy!" Uggggh, we are like 10 minutes from landing & here I am changing another diaper in the 2x2 bathroom, while they are telling us to get back to our seat. Timing is not his strong suit. Exhibit A as to why I think that this child should be potty trained by now.  The only problem is he avoids bathrooms at all costs.  I mean he literally puts his feet and hands on the door trim to avoid going into the bathroom.  Tips? Anyone?

And this.

This was Landon and Harper 5 minutes before we landed in Florida.  Yes, yes, it was.

I mean are you kidding me? Where were these angels all morning?

You might be thinking, that's probably bad on his neck. At this point I was about 500 miles past the point of caring. They were both asleep. If even for the last 2 minutes of the flight.

And we all made it out alive....kind of.
